Divine Spell
If, as the sun is rising and you are looking at the tidy rows of vineyards of the Fattoria Le Pupille, in the Maremma close to Grosseto, it comes almost naturally to think that during the night a fairy combed them with her magic wand.
But in truth, what has made these rows so perfect is not a person of magic but rather a woman in the flesh: Elisabetta Geppetti.
A successful entrepreneur, she founded the Fattoria, a typical low and square plan Maremma farmhouse surrounded by 60 hectares of vineyards where grapes grow giving different names to the farm’s labels. The fascinating lady with reddish-purple hair has been in the vineyard business for 25 years as soon as she came of age: her passion for wine in fact blossomed when she was at senior high school, when she preferred the countryside to discotheques.
She has her own secret hideaway: a personal garden in Boriano, not far from Castiglione della Pescaia where, in a secular olive tree grove, she renovated an old Provençal style olive press imitating the green architectures of the landscape architect Jean Mus. Here the flower and plants of nature, like santolina, lavender, myrtle, lentisk, mermaid rose and helichrysum are a delight to the nose with their perfumes making you forget all your woes.
Out of all the secret wishes, Mrs. Geppetti also has the one of opening a relais de charme. While waiting to make it come true, she opened a delightful guest house, renovated and furnished with style and simplicity in Pereto right next door to her beloved Saffredi vineyards. Another touch of the magic wand –and this time the wand belongs to the fairy Elisabetta - and the enchantment of the Fattoria le Pupille continues.
